Work directly with public water systems in Maine to promote compliance and protect human health. NEIWPCC is looking for a detail-oriented environmental analyst to join our team and provide technical assistance for the Maine Drinking Water Program by:

  • Using expertise in drinking water treatment and distribution to help Public Water Systems (PWS) throughout the state provide safe drinking water to their customers.
  • Participating in field inspection visits and providing hands-on technical assistance and education to promote compliance and increase technical, managerial, and financial capacity.
  • Performing research and assisting with data improvement projects.

The successful candidate will have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in environmental science or a related field, and at least three years of related experience.

Environmental Engineer, PE

Full-time in Albany, NY

Help to safeguard public health and protect the environment in New York by joining NEIWPCC as an Environmental Engineer. We’re seeking a licensed Professional Engineer to oversee an administrative consent order to abate combined sewer overflows (CSOs) within the New York City watershed.

What You’ll Do

As a NEIWPCC Environmental Engineer you will:

  • Provide high-level program management of all obligations under the CSO Consent Order, identify potential problems with implementation and facilitate timely resolution in coordination with internal and external partners.
  • Complete comprehensive technical reviews of and develop detailed comments on documents submitted under the CSO Order and prepare technical memoranda and presentations.
  • Conduct site visits of active construction projects, attend and construction progress meetings to identify potential problems associated with project implementation, and prepare construction site inspections reports to document status of project construction.
  • Supervise and provide guidance to a NEIWPCC Environmental Engineer working on the program.

What We Are Looking For

The successful candidate will have a passion and interest in preserving and advancing water quality. We are seeking candidates with:

  • A New York State Professional Engineer’s license, or the ability to transfer active license to New York.
  • Knowledge of wastewater collection system, treatment plant, stormwater system, or CSO system engineering design, operation practices, and construction practices.
  • Knowledge of USEPA and NYSDEC wastewater, stormwater, and CSO rules and regulations and experience working with federal, state, or local water/wastewater agencies.
  • A degree in environmental, civil, chemical, or mechanical engineering, or in a related field with five years of experience in wastewater treatment plants or wastewater collection facilities design and construction with at least three years as a professional engineer.

Position Logistics

This full-time NEIWPCC position will work 7.5 hours per day and is based in Albany, NY. Duties will be performed largely in an office setting with occasional travel to and from construction sites or meetings in New York City, for which a valid driver’s license and access to own transportation are required. Wastewater Infrastructure Project Manager or Environmental Engineer

Full-time in Kingston, Valhalla, or Arkville, NY

Help protect the natural environment and public health for the communities of New York by joining NEIWPCC as a full-time Wastewater Infrastructure Project Manager or Environmental Engineer and manage the assessment, replacement, and maintenance of wastewater treatment infrastructure in the New York City water supply watershed.

What You’ll Do
As a NEIWPCC Project Manager or Environmental Engineer, you will:

  • Perform site inspections, meet with wastewater treatment plant owners, review contract documents, evaluate scopes of work for eligible projects, and coordinate with compliance staff of the New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).
  • Be responsible for preparing and reviewing internal and external progress reports pursuant to New York City and State requirements.
  • Be responsible for computer-based tracking and monitoring of program accomplishments, contract budgets, project coordination, payments, and related documentation.

What We Are Looking For
The successful candidate will have a passion and interest in preserving and advancing water quality. We are seeking candidates with:

  • Either 5-10 years of wastewater facility operations and maintenance experience, or candidates with two years of related experience with a bachelor’s degree in environmental or civil engineering.
  • Understanding of National and/or State Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES/SPDES) permit program inspection processes and the operation of wastewater treatment utilities and facility reconstruction.
  • Experience with or knowledge of tertiary wastewater treatment processes.
  • Excellent computer skills (including word processing, spreadsheets and databases), effective verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to perform basic statistical analysis.
  • The possession of a current wastewater treatment operator’s license for the state of New York, or a professional engineer’s license and current registration from a State or Territory of the United States is a plus.

Program Manager – Drinking Water Source Protection Program

Full-time in Albany, NY

We are seeking a dedicated program manager to join our collaborative team supporting the Drinking Water Source Protection Program in New York. This individual will work with internal and external partners to develop and coordinate the implementation of source water protection plans throughout the state. Duties will include:

  • Supervising staff across the state who are charged with developing source water protection plans in cooperation with stakeholders and municipalities.
  • Facilitating program collaboration between multiple state, regional, and local entities, as well as the regulatory community and the general public.
  • Conducting or overseeing investigations on matters such as source water assessment and protection, water storage, treatment and distribution, wastewater treatment and discharge, point-source and non-point source pollution, permitting, compliance, and regulatory issues.

Preferred Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a passion and interest in preserving and advancing water quality. Ideally the candidate will have:

  • A master’s degree in environmental science, biology, chemistry, earth science, environmental health, or related science, health, or policy degree.
  • Seven years of related technical or professional experience, including supervisory or managerial experience.
  • Experience collaborating with a broad range of stakeholders in implementing environmental programs.
  • Knowledge and experience with the development and implementation of source water protection plans, with a working knowledge of groundwater and surface water hydrology.
