Our mission includes helping to expand knowledge about the condition of the Northeast’s water resources.

Research and monitoring by our staff and by partners tracks the presence of aquatic invasive species and harmful algal blooms, the effects of sea level rise and emerging contaminants, water quality trends, and other environmental impacts. Explore scientific articles, reports and project resources funded by NEIWPCC in the Resource Library.

Our quality management program ensures the integrity of all data collected in our research and monitoring.

The Chloride Resources Clearinghouse provides innovative and alternative chloride reduction resources and research.

Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) are a group of emerging contaminants that are the topic of much research and discussion across NEIWPCC workgroups. PFAS are impacting biosolids management and disposal in the Northeast, which prompted the development of the Wastewater Residuals BioHub to coordinate solutions to this issue.

Wetlands assessment work through NEBAWWG supports users and developers of wetlands monitoring and assessment tools.

Research is also part of our work to limit the discharge of nitrogen into Long Island Sound and nutrient pollution generally, of ongoing discussions about pollution budgets, and of water quality standards.
