Recognizing the outstanding work of our employees, from within our program partners and across our member states.

Each year, NEIWPCC recognizes one individual or team who have made a significant impact in helping us to achieve our strategic plan. The recipients of this award have built and nurtured key relationships with our partners and stakeholders, have promoted innovative ideas or approaches, and have demonstrated exceptional leadership through team building, integrity and commitment.

An individual or team can be nominated by a fellow staff member, a NEIWPCC supervisor, a state supervisor, or a member of our Executive Committee and Commission. A rigorous selection process ensures our most deserving employees receive this award.

The Annual Achievement Award is presented at the All Staff Meeting in March.

Ashley Harrington, information officer, and Jennifer Lichtensteiger, environmental engineer, both part of the Wastewater and Onsite Programs Division

Ashley Harrington and Jennifer Lichtensteiger were nominated for their commitment, adaptability, and attention to detail while coordinating the publication of the new Technical Report 16 (TR-16) Guides for the Design of Wastewater Treatment Works. The TR-16 is the region’s foundational guidance document for wastewater treatment facility design, last updated in 2016.

“This was a complex, two-year effort that required extraordinary organization, persistence, and attention to detail,” said Michelle Jenkins, NEIWPCC information officer. “Ashley and Jen tirelessly coordinated the work of 20 writers and advisory committee members, each responsible for individual chapters with varying schedules, writing styles, and technical content. Keeping this large group engaged, on track, and aligned required sustained effort well beyond normal job expectations.”

NEIWPCC Commissioner Jane Stahl said, “Like NEIWPCC itself, Jen Lichtensteiger and Ashley Harrington brought credibility, integrity and technical excellence to the task of overhauling TR-16, our region’s authoritative guide to wastewater treatment facilities.”

NEIWPCC’s Director of Wastewater and Onsite Programs Christina Stringer, added, “The updated TR-16 will guide infrastructure investments and regulatory decisions for years to come. Through technical excellence, dedication, and collaborative leadership, Ashley and Jennifer have delivered a lasting contribution, on behalf of NEIWPCC, to the wastewater community and to the protection of public health and water quality across the region.”
