Supporting nonpoint source (NPS) erosion control training for contractors and others in Maine.
The Maine Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) contracts with NEIWPCC for many of the administrative duties for Maine’s Nonpoint Source Training Center (NPSTC). These duties are managed through the NEIWPCC South Portland office.
Effective January 1, 2013, Maine’s DEP requires contractors who disturb soil in the shoreland zone to have someone on site who is DEP certified in erosion control practices. To become a certified contractor, you must complete the Erosion Control Certification Course, either online or in-person, and successfully complete a construction site evaluation. Online courses are offered through NEIWPCC South Portland.

Initial Erosion Control Certification Online Courses
Completion of an eight-hour training course is required to become certified in erosion control. The online course consists of eight one-hour long modules that can be completed at your own pace.
Complete each of the nine modules listed below and pay the $75 registration fee to receive a course completion certificate.
These courses are only to be taken for initial training not recertification.

Recertification or Reinstatement Online Courses
After the initial three-year certification period, continuing education credits are required to maintain certification. Online recertifications and reinstatements are now offered through our online learning platform, Coassemble.
Two courses are available, one for recertifications and one for reinstatements.

Upon course completion, your certification will be extended by 3 years. (For reinstatements it is 3 years past end of current year, for recertifications it is 3 years past current expiration.)

The previous online courses will remain active for the next 6 months (until Jan 1, 2027) to support individuals who were currently taking these courses while we switched to this new process. Please complete the desired module(s) and return the Recertification Online Registration Form (PDF) with $20/course fee by mail or email, maine@neiwpcc.org. Certified Company Online Recertification Policy
Companies who have all their site supervisors individually certified may apply to the Maine DEP to be designated as a “Certified Company.” A Certified Company can save a considerable amount of money by paying a flat rate per calendar year and can submit an unlimited number of recertification certificates using the online continuing education course library.
