The latest episode of the “Clean Water Pod” podcast addresses phosphorus pollution in Lake Champlain, which is located between New York, Vermont, and Canada. Host Jeff Berckes interviews a trio of guests discussing the unique interstate collaboration required to implement the lake’s Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL), as well as the role of community engagement and local partnerships. They also share the challenges, successes and progress made in reducing phosphorus pollution in New York and Vermont.

The podcast opens with Eric Howe, NEIWPCC program director for the Lake Champlain Basin Program, who takes listeners on a virtual tour of the geography, history, water quality and cultural significance of Lake Champlain. Berckes then speaks with Karen Stainbrook, director of the Bureau of Water Resource Management at the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, and Emily Bird, Clean Water Initiative program manager at the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation.
