Susan Sullivan, NEIWPCC executive director, and Jen Lichtensteiger, environmental analyst, received recognition last month as part of the New England Water Environment Association’s 2021-22 Awards Program.
NEWEA’s Awards Program annually presents awards honoring members for outstanding water industry work in a variety of categories, including safety, engineering, operations, public education, public relations, management, collection systems, laboratory expertise, and service to the organization, and recognizes awards given by the Water Environment Federation (WEF) and EPA Region 1.
NEIWPCC Executive Director Susan Sullivan received the Elizabeth A. Cutone Award, given to an individual who has demonstrated key executive leadership of a water, wastewater or other environmentally focused organization. Sullivan, an active member of NEWEA and its national affiliate, WEF, has a more than 30-year career with NEIWPCC, serving as executive director since 2017.
Jen Lichtensteiger received the Alfred E. Peloquin Award, which recognizes an individual whose personal service has contributed to excellence in plant operations either directly at a treatment plant, or indirectly through assistance to plant operations personnel. Lichtensteiger has coordinated training for wastewater operators for NEIWPCC since 2018, including the Massachusetts Wastewater Management Training Program. She also facilitates NEIWPCC’s residuals management workgroup.
“Professionals in the water industry work tirelessly, often without recognition, to protect, preserve, and manage New England’s water environment and access to clean water. Additionally, as a volunteer association, so much of what NEWEA does relies on the involvement of our members and volunteers,” said NEWEA Executive Director Mary Barry. She congratulated and thanked the 2021-2022 awards program honorees for their service.
