The next webinar in the National 303(d) Restoring Our Impaired Waters Webinar Series will cover the development of an innovative watershed management tool through Colorado’s Watershed Rapid Assessment Program (WRAP). The event is scheduled for November 17, 1-2:30 p.m. EST via Zoom.

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) partnered with Colorado State University to build a watershed analysis tool to streamline the process of gathering, organizing, and analyzing data. The WRAP can be used to summarize different watershed characterizations that may be required for a total maximum daily load (TMDL).
The tool is capable of quickly generating tables, maps, and graphs on a variety of watershed features, and ultimately produces an EPA-approved nine element watershed management plan template. Watershed-based plans play a key role in managing and improving water quality; however, they can be costly and time-consuming to develop. WRAP can help Colorado’s efficiency in assessing various datasets for TMDL implementation and other watershed improvement efforts.
Webinar presenters Kindra Greentree and Kenan Diker, both with the CDPHE, will discuss the WRAP tool, and share insights and challenges encountered during the development process.
Greentree, water quality planner for the Water Quality Control Division, focuses on statewide and regional water quality management planning, including the development of water quality assessment tools.
Diker, Agricultural Nonpoint Source Project coordinator, has been with the Water Quality Control Division for 25 years. His current work includes agricultural water quality restoration, protection, and planning projects. Diker has also played a key role in the development of the WRAP tool and has managed the project from start to end.
