Three pages of LUSTLine spread out, showing the design on each page. One is the cover page of the issue, a second is the beginning of the "Tanks Program - Past, Present, and Future" article, and the third shows an UST finder application map in the middle of another story.

The most recent issue of LUSTLine (#94) — a publication to promote the exchange of information in the underground storage tank (UST) community — focuses on new developments that make the industry more efficient and inclusive. The latest version is available on the website as individual articles or in PDF form.

Matthew Lahvis, principal scientist with Shell Oil Products, and Ian Hers, founder and principal at Hers Environmental Consulting, Inc., provide a toolkit for processing leaking underground storage tank (LUST) sites. The resource offers advice on how to choose a proper active remediation system, optimize its performance, and how and when to take it away once the cleanup is complete.

Another piece by Environmental Protection Specialist Sara Miller of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) discusses enhancements to its EJScreen Tool application which screens for disproportionate impacts on communities and incorporating environmental justice.

Sara Kenney, an environmental consultant with the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation’s Underground Storage Tanks Division, shares how the “Tennessee Tank Talk” newsletter has become an effective way to quickly share relevant information with owners and operators.

Additional articles by Mark Barolo, the EPA’s director for the Office of Underground Storage Tanks, and Mahesh Albuquerque, director of the Colorado Division of Soil and Public Safety, examine the progress that the UST community has made since new regulations were passed to prevent LUSTs from occurring.

The issue ends with a message from Environmental Analyst James Plummer, who is taking over as NEIWPCC’s tanks coordinator. He previously managed other programs including nonpoint source pollution and stormwater. Plummer shares his work experience and upcoming events in the industry.

LUSTLine is published twice a year and serves as the news of record for the UST community. The publication covers technical and regulatory aspects of UST compliance and release prevention, LUST cleanups, financial responsibility and other pertinent topics.
