Environmental Analyst – Training & Certification Specialist
Full-time in South Portland, ME
We’re looking for a passionate environmental analyst to join our team of dedicated and resourceful water experts in support of NEIWPCC’s South Portland office programs. In this role, you will work collaboratively with internal and external partners to:
- Coordinate initial certification and renewal activities related to wastewater operation and nonpoint source erosion control.
- Support the planning, development and execution of training activities, conferences and workgroup meetings, host remote and in-person sessions and create self-paced training products.
- Develop work plans, budgets, and contract/grant amendments, and track specific budget elements and contracts.
- Assist with modernizing processes and transitioning legacy systems in accordance with organizational standards.
- Develop communication products and newsletters, serve as the primary point of contact for inquiries, and perform general office administrative duties.
What We Are Looking For
The successful candidate will have:
- A degree in environmental science or a related field, and related professional experience.
- Possess a NEIWPCC Member State (ME, VT, RI, MA, CT, NY or NH) Wastewater Operator’s Certification (Class II or higher) or be capable of earning that certification within the first eighteen months of employment.
- Experience with word processing, database management, website management and spreadsheets, and competence with Microsoft Office products (including Excel, Access and Publisher), Constant Contact, and Adobe Acrobat.

Human Resources Intern – Talent Acquisition Assistant

NEIWPCC is seeking an enthusiastic Human Resources Intern to support talent acquisitions initiatives and other employee-related projects. This is a great opportunity for an emerging professional to work within an environmental non-profit with the goal of supporting staff in their work and attracting new personnel dedicated to advancing clean water in the Northeast.
What You Will Do
As an HR Intern, you will primarily assist with NEIWPCC’s recruitment, hiring, and onboarding projects. It is the goal for this position to assist with targeted recruitment support for NEIWPCC’s spring and summer hiring initiatives. You will also lead relationship building initiatives with key scientific educational institutions, refine recruitment strategies and accounts, and provide support to other HR-related functions including training, employee engagement, and data management.

CSO Project Manager or Environmental Engineer
Full-time in Albany, NY
Seeking an experienced construction project manager to lead and oversee project activities associated with an administrative consent order aimed at addressing combined sewer overflows (CSOs) within the New York City watershed. This dynamic position will coordinate with industry professionals to help safeguard public health and make a meaningful impact protecting the environment.
What You’ll Do
- Provide high-level program management of all obligations under the CSO Consent Order, identify potential problems with implementation and facilitate timely resolution by coordinating with internal and external partners.
- Collaborate with internal engineers to complete comprehensive technical reviews of and develop detailed comments on project documents and prepare technical memoranda and presentations.
- Conduct site visits of active construction projects, attend construction progress meetings to identify potential problems with project implementation, and prepare construction site inspections reports.
What We Are Looking For
- A bachelor’s degree in engineering, preferably in environmental, civil, chemical, or mechanical engineering; construction management; science, preferably in physical, environmental, or natural science; or in a related field.
- At least six years of experience in the design, construction, or operation of wastewater treatment plants or collection systems, stormwater management systems, or other systems for protecting water quality.
- Knowledge of wastewater collection system, treatment plant, stormwater system, or CSO system engineering design, operation practices, and construction practices.
- Knowledge of USEPA and NYSDEC wastewater, stormwater, and CSO rules and regulations and experience working with federal, state, or local water/wastewater agencies.
- Experience managing environmental construction projects.
- A New York State Professional Engineer’s license is preferred but not required.

Environmental Analyst – Water Quality Monitoring
Full-time in Albany, NY
NEIWPCC is seeking a full-time Environmental Analyst to support water quality monitoring programs in New York State. This collaborative position will collect, analyze, interpret, and communicate water quality data to ensure source water priority waterbodies are targeted for monitoring and assessment.
What You’ll Do
As a NEIWPCC Environmental Analyst, you will:
- Coordinate with program partners to determine monitoring and assessment needs.
- Assist with field season preparations and perform water quality, biological, and habitat sampling in lakes, ponds, and reservoirs across New York state.
- Assist with the engagement and coordination of volunteers using online tools and trainings.

Ability to carry 50 pounds across uneven terrain is essential. After six months of employment, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work schedule for in-office duties, subject to approval and program needs.

Lake Champlain Education and Outreach Steward
Spring Internship in Grand Isle and Burlington, VT
We are seeking a creative and enthusiastic steward to assist with education and outreach activities with the Lake Champlain Basin Program (LCBP) during the Spring Semester of 2025.
Stewards will:
- Be an educational resource to children and adults within the Resource Room with the goal of helping the public better understand Lake Champlain and the opportunities for community involvement.
- Expand outreach programming to state parks, summer camps, lake and river events, upper reaches of the watershed and downtown locations to answer questions about Lake Champlain and offer opportunities for citizen action.
- Discuss a variety of watershed concerns with the public and provide resources for getting involved or changing behavior to benefit the watershed.
Successful candidate will be reliable, punctual, and should have solid communication skills and attention to detail. Completion of at least two years of college preferred. Coursework or demonstrated interest in Lake Champlain and watershed issues covered in LCBP’s 2024 State of the Lake report is desired. The ability to interact positively with the public at outreach events is needed.
Hourly pay range is anticipated to be $17-19, dependent on experience and qualifications. This position is based out of the LCBP’s office in Grand Isle, VT as well as the Resource Room at the ECHO, Leahy Center for Lake Champlain in Burlington, VT. It is expected this position will work up to 40 hours per week with flexibility and will begin in January and extend through May 2025. This position is not eligible for telework. Aquatic Invasive Species Boat Launch Stewards
Seasonal positions at select boat launches around Lake Champlain, NY and VT
Spend your summer by the lake! Join the efforts of NEIWPCC and the Lake Champlain Basin Program (LCBP) to prevent the spread of harmful and destructive invasive species, working to ensure a healthy and clean environment for wildlife and recreationalists. We’re seeking multiple seasonal boat launch stewards to deliver interpretive invasive species spread prevention messages to boaters on Lake Champlain during the summer of 2025 and to inspect and decontaminate watercraft.
As a boat launch steward, you will be trained to:
- Greet visitors to Lake Champlain and share aquatic invasive species information.
- Record lake-user information on mobile tablets.
- Collect and identify aquatic organisms.
- Inspect watercraft, trailers, and recreational equipment for aquatic organisms.
- Conduct hot water high pressure decontaminations as needed.
Successful candidates will be organized, have excellent public communication skills, have experience with data collection, and have familiarity with invasive species. Candidates must be comfortable working in outdoor settings in various weather conditions and have the physical capability to inspect watercraft. Basic familiarity with boaters, anglers, and recreational equipment will be useful. Experience with small engine maintenance and repair is a plus. A valid driver’s license and private means of transportation are required.
Stewards will work approximately 40-hours per week, Thursday through Monday, at select boat launches around Lake Champlain from mid-May to Labor Day weekend, with the option to extend through mid-October. Weekends and holidays are required. Time off by prior arrangement can be accommodated. The anticipated hourly payrate for this position is $19.00.

Aquatic Invasive Species Field Assistant
Seasonal positions at select boat launches around Lake Champlain, NY and VT

Each summer, our crew of seasonal boat launch stewards deliver interpretive invasive species spread prevention messages to boaters on Lake Champlain. We’re seeking additional Field Assistants to assist with this effort and additional coordination of our seasonal activities.

• Mentor stewards, assisting with training throughout the season.
• Support field operation and decontamination unit maintenance.

Environmental Analyst
Full-time in Grand Isle, VT
Support environmental initiatives in the Lake Champlain Basin! NEIWPCC is seeking a detail-oriented environmental analyst to facilitate grants administered by the Lake Champlain Basin Program (LCBP) that support mission-driven projects to improve water quality, habitat, environmental engagement, and cultural interpretation of the Lake Champlain Basin.
Job Duties:
- Support the development of Requests for Proposals and support the LCBP grant review process; prepare technical data and reporting as needed.
- Support the NEIWPCC LCBP team with office support and on-site meeting support, or field work.
- Manage the LCBP online grant management system, including all aspects of LCBP Grant management workflows from proposal solicitation to close out of awarded projects.
- Facilitate the reporting, invoicing, and documentation for active grants; provide support to grant applicants, recipients, and external partners with all aspects of the grants process.
- Assist with the development of workplans and budgets for projects; help with the review and approval of technical items and deliverables.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences or related field, with coursework or passionate interest in Lake Champlain or watershed issues relevant to the LCBP mission.
- Related technical or professional experience, and experience working with or managing grants
- A proven team player with the ability to build relationships with diverse partners.
- Great time-management capabilities with accurate record-keeping skills.
