The latest episode of the “Clean Water Pod” podcast features Dillon Reservoir in Summit County, Colorado. Known for its clear, deep blue waters, the reservoir serves as a drinking water source for Denver. Despite an increase in development and population in the watershed, the reservoir’s water quality has remained consistent since the 1980s. Host Jeff Berckes speaks with two guests about the state’s nutrient control regulations that proactively protect the reservoir’s water quality, preventing more costly restoration. They credit a strong stakeholder group that brings together a variety of perspectives and innovations, as well as effective wastewater treatment and a phosphorus trading program.
Berckes is joined by Joni Nuttle, Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) specialist with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, and Jimmy McCutchan, the director of the Center for Environmental Systems Analysis at the University of Colorado Boulder.
