Seeking a full-time Environmental Analyst or Engineer to join our collaborative team as a trainer and technical advisor for our wastewater training program, which offers more than 100 training events annually, attracting more than 2,000 participants.

In this role, you will:

  • Prepare and deliver courses, seminars and trainings pertinent to wastewater treatment (topics may include chemistry, biology, microbiology, operations, lab procedures, and safety) in live-virtual, in-person, and self-paced formats
  • Establish training goals and standards for learning content, identify training gaps, and collaborate with subject matter experts and stakeholders to create course materials.
  • Provide technical assistance to wastewater treatment plant operators at facility locations, including the assessment of operational problems and recommendation of process control, maintenance, and management changes to correct such problems.
  • Provide general support and assistance with wastewater programs by preparing quarterly progress reports, maintaining webpages, preparing articles or providing background materials for NEIWPCC publications.

Our ideal candidate will have a Wastewater Operator’s Certification from a NEIWPCC Member State (MA, ME, VT, RI, CT, NY or NH) equivalent to Massachusetts Grade 4 or higher, with considerable experience in municipal or industrial wastewater treatment plant operations and maintenance. Previous experience providing training is preferred. Strong communication and presentation skills are needed.

Logistics
This is a full-time, in-office position based in Lowell, MA. Duties will be performed largely in an office setting with a need for travel, for which a valid driver’s license and private means of transportation are required. Position would require occasional site visits to industrial facility settings and roadside locations, requiring the use of protective wear and adherence to safety policy. After six months of employment, this position may be eligible for a partial telework schedule, subject to approval and determined by program and office needs.

NEIWPCC is seeking a full-time Environmental Analyst to support the Mohawk River Basin Program (MRBP) which works to conserve, restore, and protect the water quality and natural resources of the Mohawk River through applied research and ecosystem-based management.

What You’ll Do
As a NEIWPCC Environmental Analyst you will:

  • Assist with the development, coordination, outreach, and implementation of the Mohawk River Basin Program (MRBP) and the MRBP Action Agenda, which includes assisting with Mohawk Phosphorus Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL), Day in the Life of the Mohawk River, Mohawk Watershed Symposium, and DEC’s Drinking Water Source Protection Program (DWSP2).
  • Coordinate with other programs, state agencies, and a network of stakeholders to accomplish program goals.
  • Engage with communities through developing and delivering presentations on conservation topics.
  • Support monitoring and research projects in the Mohawk Watershed, which includes occasional field work and QAPP writing.

Preferred Qualifications
The successful candidate will have a passion and interest in preserving and advancing water quality. Ideally the candidate will have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences, geology, hydrology, biology, natural resources, environmental planning, or a related field, and at least three years of related experience.
  • Knowledge and experience with aspects of water quality and watershed management.
  • Experience with community outreach, stakeholder engagement, or communicating with the public about state and federal programs.
  • Ability to work effectively with scientists, engineers, and managers, the public and regulated community and to establish professional credibility.
  • Ability to use Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for mapping and spatial analysis

Logistics
This full-time NEIWPCC position will work 7.5 hours per day and is based in the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation office located in Albany, NY. Duties will be performed largely in an office setting with the potential for field work and occasional travel, for which a valid driver’s license and private means of transportation are required. After six months of employment, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work schedule for in-office duties, subject to approval and program needs.

Information Officer – Resource Room Specialist

Full-time in Burlington and Grand Isle, VT

Are you passionate about educating others on environmental issues, such as the protection of our region’s lakes? We are seeking a creative and enthusiastic individual to support the daily operations of the Colleen Hickey Lake Champlain Resource Room at ECHO, Leahy Center for Lake Champlain on the Burlington waterfront and support Lake Champlain Basin Program education and outreach initiatives in Grand Isle, VT.

Position Overview

  • Support the day-to-day operations of the Resource Room including staffing the room and delivering programs and activities relevant to the protection of the Lake Champlain basin.
  • Develop and deliver watershed lessons and public engagement activities at school and community events across the watershed; share concerns with the public and provide resources for getting involved or changing behavior to benefit the watershed.
  • Cultivate watershed stewardship by sharing opportunities for individual and community action.

What We Are Looking For
The successful candidate will be reliable, punctual, and have solid attention to detail. Seeking candidates with:

  • A bachelor’s degree in environmental education or interpretation, environmental science, natural resources, natural resource policy or a related field.
  • At least two years of technical and professional experience with a proven record of success.
  • Experience educating and presenting information to the public, with excellent communication skills and the ability to actively listen and respond respectfully to different perspectives.
  • Knowledge of or experience with Lake Champlain watershed resource issues.

Candidates with alternative qualifications or who have taken a less traditional career path may be considered if an aptitude for success and a strong willingness to learn is clearly apparent.

Position Logistics
This full-time NEIWPCC position will work 8 hours per day for a total of 40 hours per week, and is based out of the Colleen Hickey Resource Room at the ECHO, Leahy Center for Lake Champlain in Burlington, VT as well as LCBP’s office in Grand Isle, VT. The Resource Room is open 7 days each week, and this position will be part of a team that staffs the space on weekends, holidays, and occasional after-hours events. This job requires 4 weekend days per month. A valid driver’s license and access to personal transportation are required. Travel to Quebec may be requested, for which a valid passport or enhanced license will be required. This position is not eligible for telework.
