The Hudson River Estuary Management Program and the Hudson River National Estuarine Research Reserve are hosting a “Women in Science” speaker series. Launching in late January, the annual series provides listeners with the opportunity to meet and learn from scientists, community leaders, and environmental educators. Discussions will cover monitoring and research, field-based learning, science communication and environmental education. This free online series is open to the public. 

The four webinars include:

January 28, 3:30-4:30 p.m.
“The Hudson River Eel Project: Community Science at Multiple Stages,” presented by Sarah Mount, NEIWPCC environmental analyst and Hudson River National Estuarine Research Reserve science educator.

February 4, 3:30-4:30 p.m.
“Water Quality Monitoring and Place-Based Education,” led by Barbara Brabetz, professor of chemistry and biology at State University of New York (SUNY) Cobleskill.

February 11, 3:30-4:30 p.m.
“Making Flood Risk Visible: Communicating the Science of Resilience in New York State,” with Rewa Phansalkar, research and outreach specialist at the New York State Water Resources Institute at Cornell University.

February 21, 3:30-4:30 p.m.
“Portrait of a Graduate: Environmental Education for Changing Guidelines,” presented by Emily Marcet, education director with the Hudson River Sloop Clearwater.
