The Fall 2024 issue of NEIWPCC’s biannual magazine, “Interstate Waters,” is now available both online and in print.
The cover story focuses on NEIWPCC’s Quality Assurance Project Plans – mandated by the EPA – which are required for any study the commission funds that collects or uses data for the purpose of environmental decision-making.
Another article, “Reducing Long Island’s Hypoxic Waters,” addresses the significant nitrogen load reductions that have occurred in Long Island Sound, over the past few decades. Nutrient pollution led to a chronic problem with bottom water hypoxia, or oxygen depletion. However, joint efforts by the EPA and the surrounding states to tackle the sources of this pollution have resulted in a reduction of the hypoxia area by 50% since 2001.
Finally, a piece spotlighting wastewater trainers introduces readers to Nora Lough and Don Kennedy, and shows their dedication in providing instruction to water treatment professionals for improving their job performance skills and maintaining their required licenses.
