Mass. Seeks NPDES Authority

NEIWPCC hosted a webinar October 5th focused on Massachusetts’ pursuit of authorization from the EPA to manage its National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) program.

The webinar featured Beth Card, Deputy Commissioner for Policy and Planning at the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP), and Philip D. Guerin, President and Chairman of the Massachusetts Coalition for Water Resources Stewardship.

Card provided details on the status of the program and how authorization would provide Massachusetts an opportunity to enhance water quality monitoring within the state. Guerin cited the state’s abundance of resources, quality leadership, and municipal support as evidence for MassDEP’s ability to operate a NPDES program of its own.

There was a strong turnout for the webinar, but in case you missed it or would like to hear it again, both the webinar recording and the slides will be available on NEIWPCC’s Discharge Permits page.

The presentation is available for download here.
